Twenty Years of Managing San Francisco Bay

Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 6
Summary

On September 17, 1985, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission celebrated its twentieth year regulating land and water uses of San Francisco Bay, California's largest estuary. Lying on the Pacific Flyway, the Bay provides vital habitat to hundreds of thousands of migratory waterfowl. In addition, its shallow waters, mudflats, salt ponds, and marshlands serve as valuable fish and wildlife habitats for a host of game and non-game species, including several endangered species. The Bay is also a major economic resource which supports commercial shipping and fishing and recreational boating.
