Eleanor Beckerman

Research Associate

Elly Beckerman joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in July 2022. Her current work includes a project on the governance of multiple use water services in Zimbabwe and supporting ELI’s Pro Bono Clearinghouse. She also contributes to the Environmental Law Reporter. Prior to joining ELI, Elly worked with the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project to provide pro bono legal assistance to low-income Mainers. She also worked with the city of Lewiston, Maine to devise a system for measuring usage and perception of public parks and helped the city map public investments related to Department of Housing and Urban Development grants. Elly grew up in Washington DC and graduated from Bates College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and minors in Chinese and History. Her senior honors thesis synthesized 150 years of historical housing policy, which she used to inform analysis of contradictions and possible neighborhood trajectories found in Lewiston’s Growing Our Tree Streets Choice Neighborhood Implementation Plan.
