As environmental management becomes an increasingly important activity for many companies they are realizing that a complete approach to environmental management includes engaging with the practices of their suppliers. On September 29, 2005, the Environmental Law Institute convened representatives of major manufacturers, suppliers, academic institutions, the government, and non-profit organizations to discuss Strategies to Improve Environmental Performance in Major Manufacturing Supply Chains.

The agenda included speakers from IBM, GE, Honda, Honda suppliers, the Industrial Performance Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US EPA, and Businesses for Social Responsibility.
