Summer School Lecture Series: RCRA and CERCLA

Michael C. Davis (Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP), Christopher Rizzo (Carter Ledyard & Milburn LLP), and Samantha Klein (U.S. Department of Justice) provided an introduction to RCRA and CERCLA and their many applications.

Mr. Davis is a partner at Carter Ledyard & Milburn, where he practices in the areas of environmental litigation, environmental insurance, CERCLA cost recovery, subrogation litigation, wetlands issues, and toxic torts. He has represented parties contractually liable for remediation costs at large Superfund sites, landowners in litigation against former tenants who engaged in potentially contamination causing activities, and plaintiffs alleging harm from various substances. He has published many interesting articles including two recent book reviews for New York Law Journal.

Mr. Rizzo is an associate at Carter Ledyard & Milburn and specializes in environmental law and litigation, including land use, zoning and historic preservation matters. He has published on a variety of environmental topics, most recently on New York’s new brownfield law.

Ms. Klein is a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Environment and Natural Resources Division, Natural Resources Section. Prior to joining the Justice Department, Ms. Klein was an associate in the Environment Practice Group at Carter Ledyard & Milburn, where she practiced in the areas of environmental litigation and land use review, including the preparation of environmental impact statements. Ms. Klein was also a legal fellow at the Environmental Law Institute.
