Summary

From May 27-June 5, 1987, delegates from 36 of the 43 nations who are signatory to the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance met at Regina, Saskatchewan, along with observers from 17 other nations and 27 nongovernmental conservation organizations (NGOs). Commonly referred to as the Ramsar Convention, its objective is “to stem the progressive encroachment on and loss of wetlands now and in the future.”
