Are Floodplains Compatible with Stormwater Management?

Volume 10, Issue 5, Page 9
Summary

In the past, people concerned with stormwater run-off looked no further than the storm drain; they paid little attention to the downstream impacts of stormwater. Today, largely because of concerns over the impact of nonpoint pollution on water quality, the public has come to recognize the importance of stormwater management. In developing new stormwater management technologies, scientists and managers have become interested in the concept of using floodplains and their associated wetlands to control run-off. This concept has also intrigued greenway planners.
