Community Acquisition of Developed Floodplains

There are two major benefits to acquiring developed flood plains and removing vulnerable structures. First, this breaks the cycle of flood damage which requires massive injection of federal disaster assistance and rebuilding of structures which are as vulnerable as the originals. Second, the natural values of the floodplain, which were lost to development, can be reestablished.
