Summary

Public policies instituted in the last decade restrict wetlands alteration unless the anticipated public and private benefits from alteration are judged to exceed the costs. This has stimulated interest in ways to calculate the monetary value of natural services provided by wetlands. This article explains the economic concepts which must be used to accurately estimate wetlands value.
