Summary

Law and science rarely dine together. The problem is not so much distaste as different upbringing: they do not laugh at the same jokes, and they have very different ideas about the meaning of the word “fact.” Nevertheless, the law of the land is supposed to reflect truth and justice. Therefore, if there is sufficient scientific data on a particular point, the law should eventually reflect scientific consensus.
