Resource values may be measured in economic, aesthetic, or ecological terms. Generally, market place or commodity values are measured in economic terms and set through the private sector. Other values are often established and protected by government through laws and regulations. The wildlife profession has, traditionally, viewed government regulation as the primary mechanism for protecting non-commodity values.
