Summary
Nationwide Permit (NWP) has a purpose, but it has little to do with protecting wetlands. The purpose of NWP 26 [33 CFR 330.5 (a)(26)] is to strictly limit the Corps of Engineers' permit program under §404 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act (FWPCA) in wetlands which are either isolated or above the headwaters of rivers and streams.
