Saving the Coast: New Legislative Initiatives in Florida

Volume 6, Issue 2, Page 10
Summary

The Florida Legislature will consider a sweeping package of coastal protection initiatives when it convenes in regular session on April 3, 1984. Four bills are being finalized in the House Select Committee on Growth Management appointed last year by Speaker of the House of Representatives H. Lee Moffitt (D-Tampa). These bills seek to: improve local planning for coastal protection; provide stricter building standards for construction on coastal barriers; prohibit state subsidies for new infrastructure construction on underdeveloped coastal barriers; and strengthen the state's areas of critical state concern program.
