Some Observations on Our Understanding of Hydrologic Functions

Volume 9, Issue 2, Page 3
Summary

Two preeminent wetland issues of the 1980s, according to Colet (1986), are value assessment and mitigation. From the hydrologic perspective, wetland value assessment requires an understanding og the hydrologic functions performed by different wetlands. Value assessment’s purpose is to ensure that the value of functions lost when wetlands are modified or destroyed are equitably weighed against the benefits gained by converting wetlands to other uses.
