Summary

Wetland mitigation is a subject that has increasingly occupied the attention of wetland resource managers and developers. Although resource mitigation- the replacement of living resources lost as a result of development- is an old concept, only since the 1970s has it evolved to emphasize wetland habitat. This expanded and comparatively new focus on wetlands has generated extensive policy and technical discussions that have yet to be resolved.
