Wetland Impacts from Lake Liming

Volume 13, Issue 4, Page 12
Summary

Growing concern over acid deposition in the sensitive Adirondack Park region of New York State has encouraged the use of liming to restore lake and pond pH to pre-acidification conditions. But uncontrolled use of lime may be damaging naturally occurring acid-loving wetlands and other ecosystems in the Adirondacks. This practice is now being addressed by state resource agencies, including the Adirondack Park Agency, which has begun to monitor the effects of liming programs on the region's waters.
