Leaders of the People’s Republic of China, where one quarter of the world’s population lives, have begun to preserve wetlands. Because of the nation’s ;lack of experience in wetlands protection, the Chinese National Environmental Protection Agency (CNEPA) asked the International Union for the conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) to sponsor a training course on assessment of wetland functions.
