Wetlands Protection in Connecticut

The State of Connecticut has emphasized wetlands protection in the land use regulatory arena for over one decade. Enactment of tidal wetlands legislation in 1969 and inland wetlands legislation in 1972 gave the state the tools with which to preserve and protect its important wetland resources. These two laws regulate activities in approximately 30 percent of Conecticut's 1.5 million acres of wetlands.
