Summary

There is a tendency to consider wetlands in their natural state to be undeveloped or unused. This assumption, however, excludes Alaska Native populations that make extensive use of wetlands resources. Both contemporarily and in the past, Alaska Natives have relied on wetlands habitats to provide many of the resources, which serve as the foundation of their culture.
